“Assignment of Flying to Reserves
A trip will not be assigned to an SC reserve pilot sooner than the day before the scheduled departure of the trip. However, the trip will remain posted in open time, and the trip will be awarded to any pilot who is legal to take the trip up until 1500 Central Time on the day prior to the trip. After 1500 Central Time, the trip may be awarded to a non-reserve pilot at the discretion of Crew Services. Prior to a trip that has been published in open time being assigned to a reserve pilot, Crew Services will verify that no prior requests to pick up the trip have previously been submitted.”
and
”After the Initial Award of Open Time (as described in paragraph I., above), open flying will be awarded or assigned in the following order of priority:
a. At the Company’s discretion, a green pilot, a pilot in need of consolidation, or a pilot who must be paired with a check airman.
b. A pilot with a Long Call (LC) day(s) on his line. This includes pilots with Long Call on their schedule for any reason.
c. A pilot who has expressed a desire to add a specific trip(s), provided the pilot has submitted his request to add trips in writing, in accordance with paragraph K., above.
d. A reserve pilot, in accordance with paragraph K., above, who has expressed a desire to add trips in writing, first to pilots in domicile, and then to out-of-domicile pilots.

e. A management pilot, or a pilot removed from flight duty for an entire bid period for the purpose of instruction or Company-designated special assignment, at the Company’s option, but not before 1800 Central Time two (2) days from the scheduled departure of the trip.
f. A reserve pilot who is scheduled for reserve duty, but not before 1500 Central Time on the day before the scheduled departure of the trip, first to pilots in domicile, and then to out-of-domicile pilots.
g. The most junior qualified pilot available which will be determined by calling all pilots in reverse seniority order (first to pilots in domicile, then to out-of-domicile pilots), but no sooner than twenty-four (24) hours prior to the scheduled departure of the trip.”
TLDR; when it comes to short call, they can pick whoever is most convenient. We made some gains on aggressive reserve pickup and publishing the reserve lists on the last contract, maybe we should’ve pushed a little harder.
