The critical mistake on this displacement IMO was the closing of the 7ER bases in DTW, MSP, and SLC. That alone entailed about 650 pilots being displaced probably most of whom wanted to stay in base and not chase the airplane.
I agree the common logic would be to stay in base, however the ER guys I know typically have a near-fanboy obsession with that airplane so it wouldn’t surprise me to see many commute to stay on it.
