It makes sense. Delta will hand them a turd, full of mistakes at 4pm asking them to hurry up and review it because the "pilots deserve to know" before the weekend.
That’s what happened last time I think. It didn’t affect me so I don’t know for sure but wasn’t there some end of the month timing dispute? I seem to recall the union making a stink and then backing down on the published effective date.
