I think you are being incredibly nieve, as a 25-year L-UAL guy I can say you are trying to use the typical pilot right/wrong decision in an illogical situation. That is simply not how UAL works, I have been in positions to see the waste in Willis and it is staggering, they mean well but too many Not My Problem people. They do not look at saving money in one area to be used in another, each silo has its own budget/boss and they do not care about the other silos budget/boss or how a decision in one dept can affect another depts budget. Just how it is, get over if you think they care for your input or opinion, they don't care what you think. Remember this "we fly, they manage". Not trying to be a d**k, you just need to learn this fact, and plan accordingly to take carer of yourself and your fellow pilots. That is ALL you can do.
Truth. The essence of working under the bureaucracy of any large, legacy corporation. On the other hand, it does allow efficient division of workload and management of a global scale operation.
