I just read on Epic that we lost our RSW hotel in Feb. Now granted, the hotel had some problems... no free internet, no local restaurants (besides the ones in the hotel), no discounts on food (or anything) at the hotel. But either way, it was a really nice place to spend time laying in the sun by the pool with a beer (or two).
But, I was there within the past few weeks and the crew and I were picked up at the airport by the hotel manager. She told us she had been doing this for a week or so because a previous Comair crew had been so rude and nasty to the driver and front desk staff over the above mentioned lack of discounts.
She said the crew belittled the staff saying (and I quote from the manager) "This is no way to treat an airline crew... Don't you know we're flight crew?" "I don't give a F%*# what the contract says, we deserve discounts on the food for staying at the hotel..." Manager said it resorted to a childish argument.
Anyway, my reason for posting this is why do some people (not just Comair, but mostly so) feel they are God's gift? Why do some people feel the need to be high-and-mighty and belittle people that aren't pilots? I just don't get it? Thanks to these people we lost staying at a very nice place.
It's not just the hotel.. its almost everywhere. None of the rampers or gate agents want to talk to you for fear (or hatred) that we are one of the ****ed off old bastards. I go out of my way to smile and say hi to everyone I come into contact with. I also know that morale at Comair sucks, I'm not drinking any kool-aide. I realize its bad and is probably going to get worse before it gets better. I just don't see the need to take it out on everyone else and **** and moan about it? My life is too full of its own problems as it is to worry about this *******. Sure I can, and sometimes do, complain just like everyone else, but I try to be positive. Sometimes my sarcasm is taken as bitterness, I guess I can see that. I just try to do my job and go home, and enjoy myself while I'm there.
Ok.. sorry. Rants over now. Boy that feels good.
Edit: I guess I can't say for certain that this caused us to change hotels, but the manager did say it certainly did not reflect well on Comair and that for the deal they got on the rooms the trouble was not worth it.
