If the primary use is for movies: Android with a 9:16 ratio or slimilar

iPads have a lot of wasted space when watching most modern movies.

Samsung has the Galaxy Tab A 10" for $200-300 which has a mid range processor, expandable memory, and pretty good screen.
(just don't buy the Walmart version, same name garbage specs)
