Default Tablets vs. iPad

Was about to shop for a new ipad, but started wondering: what do others like?

I use my ipad for simple internet browsing, email, and videophone (facetime, whatsapp, facebook video, etc).

Currently using an ipad Pro with 10.5 inch screen with both wifi and data. 64 Gig memory.

Curious what you guys think of the same, or similar products. Seems most will be in the $600 range.

Depends on what you and your family use. If everyone has Apple phones, computers, etc then an iPad makes sense. If not you have more options and most are cheaper than iPads. I bought an iMac back in March after using Win10 for a long time. I then wound up with an iPhone and Apple Watch a few months later and bought my brother's 2017 iPad Pro last week. Yesterday I received my AirPod Pros so my transition to the dark side is now complete

Apple has very good integration between devices, especially between the phone and watch. Before I had a Sony Android Phone and Galaxy SmartWatch, not nearly as much integration.

There’s probably going to be a new iPad Air (4) in the next few weeks, bigger screen, updated stuff inside, the usual. I’d hang tight a few weeks to see if you like it, and if there’s any good sales on the previous models. Itll probably be very similar to the current iPad Pro 11 inch, based off rumors.

Air 3 is very similar to your iPad Pro, just less “pro” (screen refresh on the Air is not as good, meaning smoother scrolling on the Pro, not hugely significant). If you don’t mind a device a year old or so, you can probably sneak a good deal on it around thanksgiving. I did that for the Pro 10.5 for my wife and it works great for her, as she doesn’t need the latest to read magazines or watch movies on it.

Ive had no complaints on all the iPads I’ve owned for personal use or work. Bought them for my folks too, and I can’t praise the simplicity enough for them (saved me a lot of time as tech support).

Verdict: wait until October or so to see what Apple puts out. Then decide if you want the latest, or a good sale on an older model.

While I am a windows/chrome/Android user....I simply hate paying the $$$$ Apple tax, the closed ecosystem that Apple has created, is actually perfect for mission critical items. While there is occasional compatibility issues in non Apple systems, and phantom issues, the fact that there is a much more limited scope of hardware in 🍎 products means that developers can test and be sure it will just work. Then add the fact that many if not all programs you will want to use are FAR more developed and usable in iOS kinda is the death blow for other systems in this argument unless $$$ is the ONLY argument. Try something like fltplan.go side by side iOS and Android.. no comparison, even though there was just a significant update in Android.
Find the iOS/iPad OS item that suits you... mainly screen size is what will drive your choice, since most Aviation applications run fine on all current models.
then get a model with LTE, so you have a built-in GPS or you will want a separate one, and might need to connect it to a cell phone for last-minute updates/weather before a flight if WiFi is not available.

If the primary use is for aviation: Apple
If the primary use is for movies: Android with a 9:16 ratio or slimilar

iPads have a lot of wasted space when watching most modern movies.

Samsung has the Galaxy Tab A 10" for $200-300 which has a mid range processor, expandable memory, and pretty good screen.
(just don't buy the Walmart version, same name garbage specs)

I like the iPad Pro for the overnights. I was able to get one at half price when purchasing a new iPhone from Verizon.(deal is offered from time to time)

Shapr3D is amazing.
