Not surprising considering that isn't what an N95 is intended to do. The N95 mask is designed for people to wear in contaminated environments to protect the wearer, like when doing mold abatement, or fiberglass insulation removal. That is why most N95 masks have a valve, because they are not worried about what you are breathing out, and it allows you to evacuate more CO2 rich air, then seals back when inhaling. The N95 (along with every other mask being worn right now) is not designed to trap and filter viruses being exhaled from the wearer. The valve usually touts 30% cooler operation, while lowering CO2 inhalation, while still providing the intended protection for the wearer.
