The USG, during the Obama administration did start to focus some of the DIME on the PRC. I wasn't very happy with TPP personally, and was fine with us having a brief temper-tantrum over the imbalance in our foriegn relations (trade and other things, competitors and allies both). We do need to (and will) get back to more diplo "normalcy" but I'm hoping foriegn nations (and their paid US political shills) have sensed a bit of a red line, ie got their fingers burned a little a bit and will be a little more cautious in their assumptions about what they can get away with.
