Default China penalties for Covid

What penalties will the world and the US impose upon China for unleashing this pandemic?

This stuff originated in a lab in Wuhan, China. Weather by accident or on purpose doesn't matter. The Chinese Communist Government should reimburse and compensate the world. If any one of us had been negligent and inadvertently burned our neighbors house down by shooting off fireworks, we would have to pay for the damage. Same goes for failing to maintain our automobile, and if the automobile encountered a failure related to our negligence, we would have to pay for any damages, up to and including financial and deaths of innocents.

I feel that China should reimburse the US for all GDP short falls, and reimburse the various covid related reimbursements and stimulus measures.

Right or wrong, I think the only option would be war, which I don't think anyone would stomach. Maybe we can have another proxy war, but with China this time instead of USSR. I'm sure war hawk Joe would be down. Other than that, America's gonna turn the other (butt) cheek on this one.

Yep. Figured that. Gotta have big time economic consequences. Sanctions would be a good start.

Good news: Investigators going to China.

Not-so-good news: It's the WHO. Not sure the CCP would let them in if they weren't expecting softball: "So, tell us... from which US city did patient zero arrive, and which airline did the CIA buy his ticket on?"

Time will tell.

Penalty for China.......

1) Don’t pay them a dime of the $1.1T in debt we owe. Encourage the other western nations to follow.

2) Revoke their favored trading status and trade more heavily with other SE Asian nations. Definitely Japan since China hates their guts.

3) Revoke the visas of all Chinese workers in the US.

Just to start. Of course I have NO faith the upcoming administration will even think to take such action, let alone follow through.

Again, what are you proposing? If we are doing a cybercounterattack, do you think we’d be advertising that? And if you want something more aggressive than that, exactly what do you want?

We do a little trade with Russia - not much. They are currently our 28th ranked trading partner with about $18 Billion through October.

Russia’s total trade with the United States was $1.94 billion in October, a change of -28.03 percent from the same month one year ago. The change in exports was -6.83 percent and the change in imports was -54.69 percent. Russia ranked No. 28 among U.S. trade partners in October. It had ranked No. 24 for the same month last year.

The top three U.S. exports by value in October were Motor vehicle parts, (2) Civilian aircraft, parts, and (3) Parts for heavy machinery. The top three U.S. imports from Russia, also by value, were Gasoline, other fuels, (2) Unwrought platinum in various forms, and (3) Oil. By tonnage, the top three U.S. exports were (1) Chemical wood pulp, not dissolving grade, (2) Aluminum waste and scrap, and (3) Preparations for animal feeding. The top three U.S. imports, also by tonnage, were (1) Gasoline, other fuels, (2) Oil, and (3) Nitrogenous fertilizers.
.
We could certainly embargo that trade - at least now that we are no longer absolutely dependent on them for transportation to and from the international space station. It would cost Boeing a few MAX orders but they are probably going to be deferred or cancelled anyway.

So what do you propose? Wing attack plan Romeo?

the second point you mention is what the Obama administration tried to do with the TPP, which Trump torpedoed. It's not unreasonable to expect Biden to revive an effort to mitigate Chinese power that began under Obama before Trump threw it out.

I wish people paid more attention to policy rather than whether someone is on the blue team or red team. There's more common ground than you would think if you can look past the never-ending political brinksmanship
