It may very well be insane, but it's par for the course in our country. I dunno, maybe it's the same insanity everywhere. If you want the average Joe to actually do research or pay attention, you have to post stuff on Tinder, Tiktok and possibly PornHub. I've personally lost much of my faith in humanity in the last few years. Won't be surprised if we completely implode over the next decade.
A question is “what is reasonable?” As pilots we do have a lot of down time that can be blocked together, so yes some research time can be allotted. However, if you were to research every issue on every topic, you might as well change occupations. This is where our media has failed us, Joe Blow doesn’t have the time to work a 40hr week, spend time with the family, maybe mess around a little with his hobby. Then on Sunday night say “ Oh ******, I got to research the COVID-Omnibus bill!” The true failure has been the media, get them back doing their jobs. Everything else should fall back into place.
