That said, the idea that phones affect flight instruments is nonsense. It may have been true (I think it was) with much older phones, and much older avionics. Flight crews, FA’s, PAX, all leave their phones on transmit mode on a regular basis, and there are not 145’s falling out of the sky left and right.

The old analog phones, if used in the rear of the cabin, would set off the cargo fire detector. Common on the ground, but if it happened in flight, blow the bottles and divert... $$$
The digital phones, depending on seat, would cause digital data noise on the COM radios, and could make the LOC bounce around in green needles. Usually just a nuisance, but it could be awkward at the wrong place and time.
What they should do is just leave the wifi on at all times, to keep pax from switching to 4G inside the marker. The wiki, if installed, has been shown not to interfere with anything.
