I always slept for 3 to 4 hours on arrival. I also made a point of always getting out. I do not sleep well on the aircraft. The one thing to keep in mind is layovers in Europe can be vastly different based on time zone and pickup times. A 6:30 AM pickup in AMS requires a different strategy than a 12:30 pm pickup. The later is a cakewalk as your sleeping in your body cycle. One thing I always tried to do was stay up until 9 hours prior to the wakeup call. It really helped be avoid the dreaded 3am waking up and then can’t get back to sleep.
I often bid back to back 3 days for commuting purposes and I would put the late Europe departures as the first trip and a earlier departure as the back end trip to make getting home easier.
