This isn’t meant against the OP, just a general rant…
But, to worry about details of work rules, etc at a legacy when you’re at a regional, it makes me want to scream “who cares”! As a fellow former regional pilot, I can assure you’ll notice an immense bump in how you’re treated. The work rules are better. The pay is better. The flying days are easier. Everything is better. Well, except now I commute and I didn’t before. But, even that’s fine because I’m commuting for the dream job.
I have buddies still at the regionals with flow who basically had mental breakdowns with the pause during Covid and said they’re leaving because “things will never recover, we’re screwed for years”… well, some left for Spirit/Atlas/Frontier/Breeze because those were “the new legacies, much better places than UAL/DL/AA with how the market will change for years”… literally one buddy said this to me. I just cringed inside and said “for sure, I agree, do what you feel is best”. This person was scheduled to flow within 3 months of the restart and is now leaving for Spirit.
To be clear, I am not knocking Spirit or any of the aforementioned carriers at all, I have friends at each who love it. I know they’re good and pay is good.
My point is, don’t stress over exact contract details. You’ll love it. I’ve never been one of those that worries about what I can’t change, but I assure you things will be great. American has been awesome. For me, AA was my dream carrier since I was a kid and I still sometimes can’t believe I’ve personally handled tail numbers I flew on as a teenager who visited the flight deck for pics after flights.
Anyway, stay put, flow comes back soon. Things will be great. If United/Delta/FedEx calls before AA gets you, go there, that was always my plan. Update your apps, stay positive and you’ll soon be over here. The contract is fine. I’m sure it could be better, but that’s everywhere.
Rant over, sorry that was lengthy…
