Default Pay and Work rules

Good evening ladies and gents,

Envoy guy here, was supposed to flow this year but Covid.

Currently polishing up the resume and logbook and not really waiting for the flow if something else better comes up.

I’ve been asking around lately when I’m in the JS on American in regards to work rules if anything is changing for the better at AAG, and in regards to making extra pay is it still difficult.

I do know that there were supposed to be some talks but I guess because of Covid I hear that can got kicked down the road as well?

I’m hearing guys and have personal friends at United and Delta making making anywhere between 20k-60k in a month and I feel like that’s unheard of American.

I want to stay for the bases (So.Fl) but that money of course is looking very appealing (Who wouldn’t?)

So what’s the scoop? Thank you kindly for the responses in advance.

Same boat here. Should have been in class this year at AA. Now I see people in my seniority going to Spirit and Frontier. Just wondering if it’s worth the wait 🧐

FOs making 60k per month at Delta and United? Yea I’d say that’s unheard of at AA.

Good call. Why would anyone wait to flow anywhere if “something better” came up, whatever that might be?

“Unheard” of? Tons of 3+ year Group 2 FOs are making $20k a month, with a little bit of effort. There’s an insane amount of premium going around during the COVID recovery. Obviously that’s seniority, domicile, equipment, and willingness to work dependent. Tons more are content to make less and enjoy lots of time off. Group 4 FOs make $20k/month with even less effort. The contract also allows for one to strategically credit (not actually fly) high amounts for a couple months (summer being common) and then get two months (November and December, for example) off with full pay. Is that the type of appeal you’re looking for?

$60k/month? Every month, not just rare one-offs? That’s much more rare than you appear to believe. Are your “personal friends” Delta A350 captains from 2018? How senior do you think this supposed $60k/month crowd is?

if you want to live in South Florida, your best bets are AA, Spirit, JetBlue, UPS, and FedEx since it’s so commutable. Good luck.

Why go to United and Delta for $720k when you can go to Breeze with their preferred 7000 hours of experience for $42k

Until you have a job offer from a company you would actually leave for, this is just bsing to pass the time. You know what the good jobs are, and AA is one of them. If the right one calls, you go.

Senior NK guy here... don’t get me wrong I love my job... I make great money, love the airplane, love the company and drive to work.... but if I’m being honest if I were in your shoes and I had a guaranteed spot at AA i would wait for it come hell or high water. I can’t believe this is even turning into a conversation. You have a seniority number at American Airlines... unless your 55 years old... WAIT IT OUT! Between retirements and overall movement, I think your nuts. Just my two cents... good luck with whatever you choose to do.

There is a serious lack of knowledge of how to play the game at AA.
It’s doable if you want to learn but you have to know the contract.

This isn’t meant against the OP, just a general rant…

But, to worry about details of work rules, etc at a legacy when you’re at a regional, it makes me want to scream “who cares”! As a fellow former regional pilot, I can assure you’ll notice an immense bump in how you’re treated. The work rules are better. The pay is better. The flying days are easier. Everything is better. Well, except now I commute and I didn’t before. But, even that’s fine because I’m commuting for the dream job.

I have buddies still at the regionals with flow who basically had mental breakdowns with the pause during Covid and said they’re leaving because “things will never recover, we’re screwed for years”… well, some left for Spirit/Atlas/Frontier/Breeze because those were “the new legacies, much better places than UAL/DL/AA with how the market will change for years”… literally one buddy said this to me. I just cringed inside and said “for sure, I agree, do what you feel is best”. This person was scheduled to flow within 3 months of the restart and is now leaving for Spirit.

To be clear, I am not knocking Spirit or any of the aforementioned carriers at all, I have friends at each who love it. I know they’re good and pay is good.

My point is, don’t stress over exact contract details. You’ll love it. I’ve never been one of those that worries about what I can’t change, but I assure you things will be great. American has been awesome. For me, AA was my dream carrier since I was a kid and I still sometimes can’t believe I’ve personally handled tail numbers I flew on as a teenager who visited the flight deck for pics after flights.

Anyway, stay put, flow comes back soon. Things will be great. If United/Delta/FedEx calls before AA gets you, go there, that was always my plan. Update your apps, stay positive and you’ll soon be over here. The contract is fine. I’m sure it could be better, but that’s everywhere.

Rant over, sorry that was lengthy…
