There is a requirement in the current CBA to hire furloughed United pilots, but there are triggers that have to be met. The furloughs have to go back to a certain date to and the regional has to be actually hiring. Neither requirement happened during this down cycle. United has remained very opposed to flow. They want to pick their own problem children, not inherit them.
I haven’t seen any statements from UA being opposed to flow, but AVIATE and this flight training school seems like they’re vetting the pilots prior to hiring. I actually think that’s a smart way of doing it, but from a skill standpoint they could end up shooting themselves in the foot bringing in so many inexperienced pilots in waves at the around the same time.
