B scale is when you pay a different rate to pilots on the same seniority list. We have had low rates to get equipment on the property with the MD82/88 being a good example. That is why the mad dog received higher pay raises on several contracts than the rest of the fleet trying to fix the issue. A B scale is when one year 3 pilot gets 150 per hour and another 3 year pilot gets 90 per hour and you have two different pay scales for a specific piece of equipment.
Having said that I don’t support artificially low rates to get equipment on the property. It leads to lots of unintended issues down the road. The same applies to retaining equipment like the Express deal we caved on when management threatened to move the 737-200’s to Comair.
