Why do you think it is fuel taxes that 'drive' that flying to other bases? ATL is a hub. It is our largest hub, but it is still a hub just like NYC and DTW and SEA. Unless you could show that the O&D traffic out of ATL is sufficient to support regular flights to SYD and BOM and the like, it really matters not whether or not the flying goes from there. And I would wager that if it DID support that kind of flying, DAL would buy a Longevity pay.....
