You guys are both correct, but the ability for the company to build 20-25% extra flying each month at straight time (carry over) is a much bigger issue than the rest of the guys getting a shot at 6 extra per month. Everything is a trade off, I could fly the line and bid carryover if I wanted to really make more money. Since I can't bid for carryover, it is nice to be able to pick up a trip once in a while and get paid for it.

I wouldn't advocate it during negotiations, but if a regular line holder or reserve wants to pick up one 6 hour trip a month extra once in a while (or every month for that matter) at straight time I don't have a problem with that. After all, most of those trips are dropped by somebody else, with the occasional x pairing thrown in.

And yes the override does allow us to make some extra money, but that is compensation for the part of the job that other pilots don't want to do. Guys are always complaining that the flex guys don't ever fly the line, so some way to pick up a trip once in a while seems reasonable.

Also, not all flexes are covered under section 11.

Good discussion, probably not on subject here, but still good discussion. I think its good to get different opinions from the various communities within the company.
