It's hard to tell anymore because really, anyone can choose to jump ship to the majors given the opportunity. The 55 plus age group is perhaps less likely, although some legacy carriers have hired older applicants too.
Perhaps a mentality to slow the revolving door. Now, if you have no four year college degree, or have several DUIs and check ride failures, that could improve the odds of staying put.
