I was talking to a pilot in the NYC lounge last month that had commuted in a day early to "get a 2 day GS" trip that was noncommutable on both ends. So he had already planned on spending another night in NYC before commuting home.

I pointed out to him that he effectively just agreed to a 4 day WS trip except he agreed to pick up two of the hotels, so all GS's are not created equal.
