Closer to NYC and away from JC is the wrong direction from EWR. Thatd be me telling you to live in Queens or Brooklyn. The industrial area surrounds EWR but stop just outside JC. So to clarify, I DO recommend living either in JC or Hoboken- as both are close to NYC (just across the Hudson) but do not have NYC prices and are fairly nice neighborhoods to live in.

That all being said I am relatively new to the area and am by no means a North New Jersey real estate guide, but in my humble opinion youll enjoy living east of EWR more than any of the other cardinal directions. Happy to provide more info about JC for any who are interested.
