I would be very, very careful doing that while you are on probation. The only type of commute where I would even consider doing that while on probation is a very short one that has a ton of options and is driveable should you somehow find yourself without an option to get there in the air. A prime example of that would be BOS-NYC. Something like SEA-LAX may look tempting due to the volume of flights, but there are likely still some times when you might not be able to make it to base in time for a legit 12 hour call out. Obviously at that distance, driving would not be an option.
