Correct. You put in for VDA and they go down the list in seniority order until they get a bite. Some senior people do very well this way. As a junior reserve in a not junior base, expect not to get called very often/at all. My first three years in LAX I was called one time for a VDA. Basically, don’t plan on it.
If you can time things right you can be relatively senior, do reserve (never get called) but then get VDA during certain times of the month (called Weekends). Literally fly 1-2 VDA trips a month on top of your RSV guarantee crediting 90 hours and maybe flying 15 hours...That's for the big brains though.
