Has anyone here gone that route? I’m currently in the process of divorce with my very short wife of less than a year. Minimum shared assets which have already been divided and two kids that we’ve agreed on child support for. I’d prefer to keep the attorney fees out of this and just go our separate ways, am I crazy?
Not a bad idea to consult a reputable attorney, as to the legality of such an agreement in your state. Many states have their own quirks and hidden gotchas. They can make good recommendations, especially if you have joint custody of the children, should you want to take them out of state to which the agreement/contract is being executed. The verbal agreement should be memorialized, and the very least notarized. This may prevent conflicts or “But you said.” crop up in the future.
