And yes, for commuters to NYC many times people will put their reserve days into 1-2 large chunks to minimize the number of times they have to commute up and back, even if that means having to work some weekends. Others due to kids/spouse's job/whatever prefer to work the weekends and have the middle of the weeks off.

In the end, on basically every NYC fleet, but especially the 220, if you want weekends off on reserve you can have that within 1-2 months of finishing training. The Jan awards should be out today and that will give a much cleaner picture of where things stand without a holiday to really jack things around.
8 day reserve stretches give you more bang for the bid. 5.75 (138 consecutive hours) days on long call is all you can do for 30/168 rest. That means day 6 rest has to start at 1800 and be prospective. Depending on when rest is assigned all of day 7 is rest. And with a 12 hour call following rest, day 8 is nearly useless because at noon you are done with hard X days following. Theoretically at 0001 day 8 you could get a call for a 1201 report but it could only be an assignment that gets you back by midnight.
