So....I've been reading through my brand spankin' new FOM prior to class, and I found the section on service animals...my question is, has anyone ever seen a "helper monkey" on a flight? I've never seen such an animal. I'm familiar with dogs, pigs, and even small ponies for the blind or disabled but not a monkey. Ever seen one? It's funny how someone in each class always asks that exact same question when they first read the POM. We had a captain in our CRJ-900 class who had actually seen a service monkey on a flight. The more humorous thing to discuss though is what types of animals people have tried to pass off as service animals, claiming that they need them for "emotional stability" (as opposed to physical disabilities). Snakes, rats, spiders, it's all been tried! They need documentation to prove it.
