It's funny how someone in each class always asks that exact same question when they first read the POM. We had a captain in our CRJ-900 class who had actually seen a service monkey on a flight. The more humorous thing to discuss though is what types of animals people have tried to pass off as service animals, claiming that they need them for "emotional stability" (as opposed to physical disabilities). Snakes, rats, spiders, it's all been tried! They need documentation to prove it.
