We’re at around 2,900 pilots right now — we carry slightly more Captains than First Officers and, of course, there’s always those that’ll bypass upgrade. However, anyone coming on property now should expect to remain a First Officer for many, many years at a rate significantly below other majors or, if you’re lucky, be an extremely junior reserve captain also making significantly below your industry peers.
....and in your mid 40s or higher you may not even be in the top half of the seniority list when you retire. It is a very young pilot group.
