You can't argue with these dudes. This is the same mentality that says we will only open certain sections of the contract for negotiation and we will want those REALLY hard. Then those on the other side of the table will see that this is what's really important to us and just give it to us.
My mother says and i teach my kids "ask for what you want. Leave it to the other person to say no." If you limit your ask to what you think is acceptable youre allowing the other party to dictate the terms of the discussion and acknowledging the weakness of your position. Folks like Merle think negotating capital is finite so we must only expend it on certain things. This place is ate up with that mentality.
Our negotiating captial is only as finite as our resolve. 2015 showed that majority of the pilots in this group have none.
Open everything to get a few things. All the while taking 3 years. Brilliant….
Im sure the RLA and mediators would side with you on everything all the time. They “get it” and completely understand all our positions on every item and demand. Just as easy as negotiations with a spouse or kid. Got it.
I am sure glad we choose a different approach going after the FOCUSED amount of items. I would rather fight over a few things rather than everything.
