You won’t get extra points for showing up in a suit. You might get the opposite because you didn’t follow their directions. Don’t overthink it. They want to hire you. If you are invited for a M&G then they want to meet you. They vet people before offering M&G’s.
Agreed- this is not a trap. Unlikely you’ll “lose points” for wearing a suit, but you definitely won’t get docked for wearing what they tell you to. Obviously, you have to follow their lead, but these tend to be pretty relaxed events & I’m guessing they set the dress code to try to foster that environment. (Most likely they include uniform not to inconvenience you in case you’re commuting in off a trip.) Be memorable, just not in what you wear.
