I have to renew my CFI this month and I would like some opinions on my interpretation of 61.197a2i. I have sent 9 students in the preceeding 24 calender months 3 of which failed 1st attempt making my average 66%, but if I just take 5 from the middle of the 24 calender months then I had only one failure making my percentage 80% (good enough for the renewal). Do I have to show a record of all nine students or can I just show the five, for the renewal? Here is the reg:
(i) A record of training students showing that, during the preceding 24 calendar months, the flight instructor has endorsed at least five students for a practical test for a certificate or rating and at least 80 percent of those students passed that test on the first attempt;
