Less than a year, of course not, did not say that. That is why the market dictates everything. They know exactly how long it takes to recoup training costs, and how much it costs them once FOs start moving up the pay scale, costing them more $$ every year. CAs aren't leaving in numbers to make a dent, and when one does, there is an FO happy to take the spot and allows management to "gloat" about our "fast" upgrades. So I stand by what I said, "a few years," essentially 2-3 years; this is long enough to recoup training costs and generate revenue off the pilot while they are at the cheap end of the pay scale.

I also dont think training costs are as expensive as we assume: No healthcare for a duration, laughable new hire pay, no LTD premiums (its actually expensive for the company,) no vacation, no uniform, etc. So yeah, you got a three grand in hotel costs, $2k in wages, instructors (until they get to IOE where they are flying revenue) and sims which I believe we have a financial stake in as well for most sims.

2 reserve trips to prevent a cancelation pays for that new hire training.
