SkyWest exercised a clause in the contract that permitted them to stop service in 90 days with notification to the DOT. The DOT exercised their option for refusal. Nothing has been done in any kind of underhanded way, and it's all been according to the contract. It's all on the DOT's web site; feel free to look it up and see for yourself.
As long as you're researching things, read the transcripts for the last two quarterly financial results call for SkyWest. They've been talking about trimming the pro-rate side of the operation for a bit and for those who have been paying attention, this move wasn't a real surprise. For that matter, it's been brought up here on APC many times about how smaller cities will lose service as 50 seaters go away and as the pilot shortage continue.
