I lived in NYC as a new hire making $28/ hr and for many years after making crap money. You’ll definitely want roommates to make it practical. Astoria used to be affordable, but less so now. Even so a quick search in Queens and found multiple 2 bedroom apts in decent areas in the low $2ks. Studio + 1 beds for <1500.

not having a car would be a huge cost savings that many don’t account for when talking about NYC living. Having an airport car is also manageable in many neighborhoods if you choose.
