I lived in NYC as a new hire making $28/ hr and for many years after making crap money. You’ll definitely want roommates to make it practical. Astoria used to be affordable, but less so now. Even so a quick search in Queens and found multiple 2 bedroom apts in decent areas in the low $2ks. Studio + 1 beds for <1500.
not having a car would be a huge cost savings that many don’t account for when talking about NYC living. Having an airport car is also manageable in many neighborhoods if you choose.

I moved to NYC with a roommate on year 3 FO pay at a regional. I originally moved to Astoria and was paying $1,200, currently live in Manhattan and pay $1,550. It does seem like rent prices in the city are creeping back towards pre-pandemic numbers so finding a good deal on rent may be difficult. I don't have a car in the city and rely on public transportation, roughly 45 min to LGA and 90 min to JFK from the upper east side. My advice would be try and find a roommate to make the situation more manageable (preferably another crew member), NYC can be difficult and expensive to find a reasonable 1 bedroom/studio.
