If this was to happen to an American carrier with a global presence (AA, DAL, UA, etc), I don't see this going down the same way. Not likely a 3rd world sh*thole like DR would arrest and detain two American pilots.

Hmmm... I'm not sure. Part of me thinks some local authorities heard "airline" and "pilot" and decided it was time for a shake down. AA, DAL and UA, their pilots, and the ole' U S of A would have more dinero than any respective entity in this story.
