AggiePilot,
I know what you're going through, as do many on this forum. I jumped ship at the end of last July and started with my Guard unit the very next day. I didn't want to fly the BJ20/SR220B at the Rock, twelve times a week for the next three or four years. There's plenty of reasons to leave, but there's just as many to stay. I love the Guard and don't regret getting out one bit. Being an Aggie and all, you oughta be able to find a job with the TxANG guys if the AETC gig doesn't work out. I'm sure you know the secret handshake.

Depending on what you're willing to do, there's plenty of jobs out there. You can slip your separation date some, and you can pull your papers after you've put them in. Just remember the situation you've opened yourself up to with your commander and the assignment guy. Don't worry much about the 6 month prior timeline. That can be shortened.
Best of luck
