Hey Aggie, I probably know you... when were you at the 2nd? I've been kicking around there since 02, and am an AMLO over on Bragg at the moment

AggiePilot,
I know what you're going through, as do many on this forum. I jumped ship at the end of last July and started with my Guard unit the very next day. I didn't want to fly the BJ20/SR220B at the Rock, twelve times a week for the next three or four years. There's plenty of reasons to leave, but there's just as many to stay. I love the Guard and don't regret getting out one bit. Being an Aggie and all, you oughta be able to find a job with the TxANG guys if the AETC gig doesn't work out. I'm sure you know the secret handshake. Depending on what you're willing to do, there's plenty of jobs out there. You can slip your separation date some, and you can pull your papers after you've put them in. Just remember the situation you've opened yourself up to with your commander and the assignment guy. Don't worry much about the 6 month prior timeline. That can be shortened.
Best of luck

Was never at Pope but you never know we probably shared some beers in St Johns/Meter bar/Muff and what ever other places the Herk guys gravitates towards. For my .02 cents it all depends on how much of the active duty bull**** you are willing to put up with. I was so fed up I gave up a dream job at ETAR. I think there is still an old thread here from last year if you want to read about it.

Here it is almost a year later and I'm at the pool in SW (swimming very deeply) and with the reserves flying FRED. Did I make the right call? So far I would not change a thing. The only regret is not going into the reserves sooner. I had a break in service and those are a pain so make sure if you are thinking guard or reserves start shopping/networking NOW! That way you are in from day one.

Also have some backups other than the guard. Its getting ugly out there and I am very close to going back for a masters since SW is about a year away at least Anyway hopefully that helped. Take care and good luck!

Beis77,
Sheimer we do know eachother. I was in the 2d from 01-04. I'd PM you but you don't have enough posts yet. Tuck was my copilot on my last deployment as an AC to the Deid. Josh Donald was my Nav. My last name is very German and rhymes with blinkin'. I'd PM you but you don't have enough posts yet.

Ok, I figured it out; we pilot scheduled for awhile together back at the Deuce with Radford and Shady Joe. I'll PM you when I get over the minimum posts!

How did Vance treat you? I remember before you PCS'd you were talking about flying T-37's and then converting over to T-6's.

Aggiepilot- When I put in my applications I put in an initial separation date based on my WIC ADSC. I didn't change my date and didn't put in my papers until I got hired (3 1/2 months prior to my ADSC). I talked to my reps at AFPC and they said that since I am requesting a separation date past my ADSC that it will be approved even though I didn't give six months notice. This did require for me to get a waiver request signed by the wing/CC. I hope they are right. You can always put in a request to slip your date of separation. If you are dead set on getting out this would probably give you the most flexibility. For me, I didn't want to show my cards until I had some options lined up. I have known guys to get an approval to separate early to give them flexibility only to turn around and request an extension. Requires some paperwork but doable.
