Personal opinion....
they are placeholders for the 900 options. Nothing more than differences training (4-5 days) for the pilots. Kind of like how 602XJ was kept around for a year as the only CRJ here just to keep the program alive so that we could ramp things up quicker for when the 900's first started arriving. I wouldn't expect more than 1 total airframe of growth beyond what is arriving now. (-17 CR2's + 18 CR9's = net of 1 airframe)
