A reserve pilot can't self certify their own rest. If you are on LC, you can only do a GS if the report time is > 10 hours out since they have to put you to rest for 10 hours. If the trip was > 12 hours out they would simply assign it to you as a long call assignment. So the stars have to align where the GS trip is in that 10-12 hours until report window if your current status is on LC.
