Probably more accurate to say radio work across the US is abysmal. It’s very good just about everywhere else and unfortunately many of the US flyers who were improperly trained quickly identify themselves with one or two radio calls internationally. They can get by with CB style radio calls in the US, but elsewhere they embarrass themselves, their airline and create a potential hazard for the rest of us trying to do it properly and professionally.
The US has a carveout in AIM (4-2-1.b IIRC) that sort of gives a get out of jail free card for these. But flying internationally especially in some more remote countries you are absolutely right. Telling Chinese ATC "I got him on the fishfinder!" just makes you sound like an ass.
