If Spirit were to stand alone, I would submit that it’s not first year pay that makes candidates balk, but the 40% gap the next 3-5 years and beyond. The 2-3 year upgrades are gone forever (unless some base/schedule anomaly develops like Delta 717 JFK). A new hire today is looking at 5-7 year upgrades, and would have to average 100 credit to still fall short of other narrowbody pilots making guarantee.
B6 still has a very similar attrition issue to NK even with the first year rate I would like to see for our pilots.
Our goal should be a scale that makes a decade plus at NK or B6+NK to being a line holding captain lucrative enough that a trickle of those who leave seeking widebody double breasted glory is merely a rounding error.
