You can request the YS as early as you want, but it will only be filled the day prior to the trip. There are a few destinations, MED (malaria endemic?), that cover more days in advance to allow preventative medicine to be taken prior.
This comes from the “coverage ladder” in the PWA, or more easily the Scheduling reference handbook.
