Please don't do it!
SuperPilotJesse,
I have been reading these forums for 2 years, one of which has been spent at Comair, and have resisted the urge to respond or make one single post. Your delima, regarding where to base yourself has forced me out of hiding. My experience in NY has been horrible. I thought it would be cool, I'll see the city, I'll tell everyone I work in NY and have a place there. On top of that I thought I would fly airplanes and make money. None of those things were true. Sitting in a crashpad with no money because you never fly, and riding the bus 40 mins. to work just to sit 6 ready reserves a month, from the so called "nice area" (key gardens) is not my idea of cool.
There are those who say they love New York, and hate Cincinnati. There are 3 possible reasons as to why this is:
1). Crack Cocaine is more readily available in NY
2). They can afford to live in lower Manhattan due to winning the lotto (I say lower because its the only reasonable commute).
3). They have reason to avoid managers in Cinci, i.e., drinking/drug problem.
Today is my last day here (transferring to CINCI), and I feel like I'm being let out of prison.
If you must ignore the warnings your fellow pilots are heeding, then I must insist that you do not under any circumstances commute to this God forsaken land they call NY. Living in base is your only hope of a life here and even with that your life will be marginal at best.
