This just isn’t at the top of my top 10 things I want ALPA to do/not do. Go read the constitution and by-laws. The president doesn’t have as much power as we think he has. The executive council, executive board, and the board of directors all have more power than the president. All three bodies give direction and all three can reign any National officer, up to including removal. He is basically a spokesman. I mean, we had a FedEx pilot become president for the first time. And with all due respect to him and his time in office and efforts to improve lives of cargo pilots and FedEx pilots in particular, what do we have to show for it? I honestly don’t feel it wasn’t for the lack of trying on his part. It’s just that that position only has the power that the three bodies direct him to have.
For pilot groups, the MEC members are the people who have the most influence in our day to day lives at work. The National officers offer very little to us directly.
So I don’t know much about Insler other than why I read here. I’ll leave it up to my rep to decide because I’m sure he has a lot more factual information than I can ever get about Insler. Maybe if it mattered more to me, I could try to get into the weeds on all this. But this isn’t it. That’s not to say I don’t appreciate the passion on the issue from both sides. At least that tells me people care about ALPA, which I think is good. This just isn’t the issue I’m going to hang my hat on.
There's a fair chance that your rep will just wheel and deal to get WR an EVP position if they don't have any pressure or motivation to push them in any other direction. I've been up close to this entire Insler debacle for the entire six years and UA for 25. Take my word - he won't take ALPA in a direction that you'll like.
