Technically only 1 flight required, but if you miss it crew scheduling won't help you get to work, you don't get paid for anything you miss, and there is some really vague language that says it is meant to be used "rarely" and at their discretion the company can require proof that you had open seats 24h prior, etc. Basically it's a non-policy, like the whole rest of the contract.
I’ve used it several times, it’s a pretty good policy. We don’t have to have back up flights, we don’t have to use our own airline, we don’t have to be in place a set time before sign in. Yes, you are not pay protected, but there is no discipline unless you use it a lot. Also, on reserve, you just go back on call, no pay docked, at least my experience. Crew scheduling may or may not help you get there, I’ve never tried calling them, I just went home…or never left home when the entire day canceled on me.
