Either way the ACMI side doesn’t jump significantly 2nd year, and so on as we know. Paying peanuts was the norm to lock folks in and keep them from jumping ship obviously, but several have increased the first year gauntlet to attract more applicants. Obviously having 2nd year pay as the highest in the industry is a very strategic move as folks wouldn’t endure the first year of tough schedules and debt debacle if the second year were not top or near the top of the pay scale. The kicker of ACMI is the training cost is paid easily within two years as folks cycle out and move on. Not a good growth move as it gets more challenging to hire of course, but depending on the situation sometimes it’s not cheaper to keep’m and hence pay scales suffer.
*If your waiting for that call for the gauntlet, than some of these other carriers aren’t bad places to hang out. Just remember there are only so many seats at the table and the economy, etc is always cyclic. Timing is everything.
