You CAN call the NWA 800# and list yourself, as an ID-90, for example.

Some of the gate/counter agents I've met like it if you're already listed, even though you're not listed as a JS-all they have to do is change the info to JS, so I guess it saves them some time.

You can also check the numbers of non-revvers via the 800 number. Loads are available at nwa.com.

I have had almost 100% excellent experiences with NWA employees while jumpseating.

Also, at the vast majority of the airports in the US, you don't need a gate pass-just go through security and go to the gate. I know that in GRB, PNS, the AA terminal in DAL and either ELP or LRD (can't remember which one) you DO need a gate pass from the counter.
