Not mgmt, the union itself is built to protect existing bases and stand in the way of outlying bases. There is a whole airline sized LEC in ATL that will squash any attempts to make small bases that are anywhere they perceive to be "their flying is to be diluted".
I’ve heard this a lot. Which cracks me up since all the other bases dilute flying as well. ATL ER pilots doing INTL outta NYC Mid-rotation. NYC 220 Folks doing SEA flying. Next month every flight from NYC -> HNL (and the return) is covered by an LAX crew.
AUS currently has ~40 departures a day. Mostly on the 320. Throw a joint base with Dallas or SAT and you’re up to 70-80. 320 or 220 only into the Texas cities for the last 5+ years. Some of our bases have less departures on certain fleets than that…
From my understanding the Union pulled the plug on the virtual basing in MCO. If anything a few outstation bases would ease some commuting pressure, open up some seats for nonrevving and be a useful tool for recruiting. Fewer pairings with a penalty lap too probably…
