FOCUSED BARGAINING
Why are we doing focused negotiations on limited important issues to the pilot group instead of a full Section 6 where we fix everything?

The short answer is time. We don’t have the two to three years that a comprehensive Section 6 would take before we need to negotiate a TPA and a JCBA. What we do have are multiple opportunities in the next two years to initiate bargaining for contract improvements. These focused negotiations are the first step of a multi-step process. At the conclusion of those efforts, having bargained a comprehensive JCBA or, should the merger fail regulatory approval, a comprehensive CBA as a stand-alone carrier, we aim to have in place a new agreement that will position us as a career destination carrier. These focused negotiations will pay our pilots while we negotiate the TPA and JCBA and provide a backstop in the event the merger isn’t approved that immediately puts us back at the negotiating table to bargain for comprehensive improvements.
Update from the NC:"We know all of you are waiting to see whether a deal can be achieved on the timeline agreed to by the parties in the Protocol Agreement. If the Company drags its feet and denies the pilot market reality, we understand that many of you will look elsewhere for career opportunities. If a deal is not in reach by Dec. 9, we will be transparent with you so you can make the best decision about your future."

TL/DR:"If we don't get a TA by 12/9, we suggest leaving, because we don't have any more meetings planned afterwards."
The NC is obviously prepared to not accept a substandard deal, and willing to drag it out to force the companies hand.
